ClassAct: Active School

A Kickstarter project from ClassAct is raising $30,000 for pledges to fund a low-cost school construction and design project. The organizations plans to rebuild the St. Vincent Institute in the town of Maribojoc, Bohol after the the school was among those destroyed by Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) last year.

The money we raise through Kickstarter will go towards the construction of one of the three classrooms at Maribojoc, Bohol. We've raised enough to build the first; our target of $30,000 will go to the second; and $50,000 will allow us to build a third.

The design of the school draws inspiration from the traditional Filipino “verandah” open living spaces. The structures and materials are well-thought of and use modern engineering and local materials such as

Beyond Maribojoc, ClassAct hopes to bring its transformative social model to the rest of the Haiyan-affected areas of the Visayas (Tacloban, Samar, Leyte, and Cebu) in need of new facilities. Funding is already secured for a second set of classrooms for the municipal of Loon, Bohol.

Everett Katigbak

Everett Katigbak is a Filipino-American artist, designer and musician. He presently works at Facebook as a Communication Designer. Before joining the social media giant, he was an exhibition designer at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. He also taught letterpress printing (like poster printing) at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California.

He’ll be speaking at the Brand New Conference at San Francisco this September 16th.

Pixels - an e"art"h multimedia exhibit

The graduating students of Phoenix One | The Knowledge Institute’s School of New Media Design will be will showcasing their works in their upcoming Pixels - e”ART”h multimedia exhibit on July 22, 23 and 24 at the Glorietta 5 Atrium.

We want to show our skills in multimedia and also give awareness through our art by showing majority of our works that focus on the beauty of our environment and depicting the idea, charm and supremacy of the color “green”.

Galco's Soda Pop Stop

John Nese, owner of Galco’s Soda Pop Stop in LA, talks about his love for old-fashioned sodas. His shop sells 500 varieties of carbonated drinks from around the world and he is still on the look out for more independent soda suppliers.

The Odd Multimedia

Featuring the reel of a friend, Odd Multimedia, who is in the advertising and entertainment industry. Having trained at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood, she has accumulated a broad portfolio of post-production work on commercials, TV series and motion graphics industry. She also hosts Odd Teatro which is more of a showcase of her illustration skills seen on a time-lapse video. Worth checking out!

Building a Design School for Filipino Artists Living in Poverty

An ambitious goal to start a nonprofit design school in the Philippines for young adults who can't afford college. Support and spread the word.

Ferdinand Center for the Creative is a nonprofit center opening up soon in the beautiful archipelago of the Philippines. Our aim is to provide the finest graphic design education for young adults who can’t afford quality art education.

FCC already started a project at KickStarter.com to fund this design school. They have 90 days left for people to pledge in and reach their target of $50,000 (roughly 2.5 million pesos). They already have a lot in Camarin, Caloocan City and blueprint of the school. All they need is the money to actually build it. If they can’t reach $50,000 on March 13, 2010, they won’t get anything and those who pledged won’t be charged.

This shirt was made by Lawrence Villanueva aka boostr29. It won the Threadless Loves Geek shirt design competition which Microsoft sponsored. His prize? $2,000 cash and other cool items like Zune HD, Xbox 360 with games, etc.. Congratulations Lawrence!.

I actually made three entries for the loves geeks contest and all of them did fairly well. I wasn't really expecting to win but in the back of my mind i was hoping. And lo and behold after a week I got the email!!! I actually received the notice a day before my birthday which was an awesome surprise and probably the best birthday gift ever!

Visual Design Conference in Cebu

Visual is the biggest digital design conference in the South made specifically by the designers for the designers.

Glenn Lomon, a fellow colleague and good friend of mine will be one of the speakers. He’s really, and I mean really really good at his craft which is motion graphics and interface design. With him also are other highly talented individuals and designers from Cebu that will talk about their own design processes and work experiences. If you’re in Cebu, don’t miss this event!
